Nick Parsons

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA)

About Me

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in San Francisco, and I've been in private practice since 1999.

I've had a long-term fascination with the mind-body connection and in the ways hypnosis can be used to access that connection to make positive changes in how a person feels. In my practice, I have a specialty in using hypnosis to help people with IBS and chronic pain reduce their symptoms and increase natural comfort in their bodies.

I received my training in hypnosis from the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis as well as from the Milton H. Erickson Foundation, and the Milton H. Erickson Institute of the Bay Area. I am quite excited to be working through the platform because of how it how it makes a clinically-proven hypnosis treatment for IBS available to more IBS patients.

After getting my license in 1999, I opened my private practice. My focus was on helping individuals and couples improve their relationships, reduce depression and anxiety, and heal from psychological trauma.

At the same time, I started working at Bridge to Wellness, an outpatient psychiatric program of the San Francisco General Hospital Department of Psychiatry. My primary focus there was on running groups for patients transitioning out of in-patient psychiatric units and back into their lives. While this was rewarding work, I came to realize that running groups was not where I wanted to put my focus.

After 2 years there, I transitioned to working on staff at New Leaf Services for our Community, also in San Francisco. There I provided individual and couples therapy as well as case management for low-income and underserved populations with severe mental health diagnoses.

All during this time, I was building my private practice and taking many trainings in psychotherapy, including my hypnosis trainings, to deepen my knowledge and refine my skills. Then, 2006 I left New Leaf and transitioned to full-time private practice. More and more I began to include hypnosis into my work until it became one of the main specialties that I offer.
